Marceia Dickinson, 53, decided to undergo
bariatric surgery to improve her health and spend more quality time with her grandchildren. Although she was initially worried about committing to the treatment because of her love for food, she chose to move forward, tired of relying on so many medications to manage her diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and sleep apnea.
Before the surgery, Marceia lost around 32 lb by making significant changes to her diet, cutting out foods and drinks high in sugar. This allowed her to take her treatment more seriously. After the operation, doctors informed her that her diabetes had stabilized, and over time, her other health issues improved as well, allowing her to stop taking several medications. A year after surgery, her weight stabilized at 75 lb, down from 250 lb, though she was still aiming for her goal of 75 lb.
Over time, she faced the challenge of her appetite returning, so her doctors prescribed a medication to help control it and continue losing weight. While she hasn’t yet reached her target, Marceia focuses on balancing her meals and enjoying the benefits of the surgery, such as being able to take long walks without fatigue or knee pain, significantly improving her quality of life.
