Cardiologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of those conditions affecting the heart
and blood vessels (cardiovascular system). The training to become a cardiologist is rigorous; in
Mexico, it takes over 10 years of studies.
Heart disorders are the leading cause of mortality in the United States, regardless of gender and race. It’s believed that roughly 47% of individuals today endure high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Coronary angiography
Angiographies are used to measure the flow and pressure of the blood and help locate narrowed,
blocked, or malformed arteries. The specialist places a catheter, then, injects a special dye
that runs through the vessels. Using an X-ray machine the specialist can see how the blood flows
and detect any blocked arteries. The dye is eliminated through your kidneys and urine.
Echocardiogram
An echocardiogram is a test used to check the overall function of the heart and blood vessels by
measuring the heart’s pumping strength, movement, and size. The specialist uses a probe that
sends high-frequency sound waves that bounce off in the heart. The echoes are received by the
probe and turn into a moving image.
Electrocardiogram
Also known as EGC or EKG, is a test used to measure the electrical signal of the heart helping
detect arrhythmias, coronary artery disease and find out if you’ve had a heart attack or how
your pacemaker is working. The specialist will attach to your chest 12 electrodes that are
connected to a monitor and will record the electrical activity.
Exercise stress test
A stress test is recommended to diagnose heart-related conditions such as coronary artery
disease or heart attack. The test is used to see how the heart handles work, therefore, during
the test, you will be walking on a treadmill, which increases its speed and elevation. The
specialist will monitor the heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing.
