Gallbladder Removal
Patients undergoing a cholecystectomy, or gallbladder removal, can opt for open or laparoscopic surgery, with the former requiring a single larger incision and the latter using several smaller ones. Even without the gallbladder, patients can still maintain a regular lifestyle.
Appendectomy
An appendectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removing the appendix when it becomes inflamed or swollen. Symptoms of this condition may include stomach pain in the lower right abdomen, vomiting, diarrhea, and a loss of appetite. There are two approaches available for removing the appendix, which include open or laparoscopic surgery, and the selection of the method to use depends on the severity of appendicitis and the patient's overall health.
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
GERD occurs when the stomach acid moves up into the tube that connects the stomach with the
mouth, irritating the esophagus. Conditions and behaviors like obesity, hiatal hernias, smoking,
and eating or drinking a certain type of food and beverages can increase the risk of GERD. Open
or laparoscopic surgery is only considered after other forms of treatment have been tried. With
surgery, the lower part of the esophagus is wrapped to increase pressure and prevent the stomach
acids to move back.
