Benefits
Rehabilitation clinics or physical therapy clinics perform non-surgical and non-invasive
techniques to help patients improve their range of motion, along with managing their pain. It is
customary that a certified physical therapist and chiropractor work together to design the
treatment plan according to each person’s needs and goals.
Part of their job is to help improve the quality of life, restore function, and regain autonomy
of patients that have a neurological condition or just had an injury, surgery, or amputation.
Although physical therapy and chiropractic manage muscle pain with noninvasive techniques, their
approach is different.
Physical therapy
A physical therapist is a licensed medical specialist that has knowledge in anatomy and
kinesiology, this allows them to focus on improving the movement and strength of the body
through exercises, stretching, and joint manipulation.
Chiropractic
A chiropractic is also a licensed physician, they concentrate on the musculoskeletal and nervous
systems, meaning that they work on alleviating pain by adjusting or manipulating the joints that
affect the overall body alignment.

Exercise
Exercise consists of applying stress on the body to increase its range of motion, flexibility,
and strength. There are two forms of exercise; passive in which someone else applies the stress
to the body, and active in which the patient is the one controlling the movement and stress.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound or therapeutic ultrasound is a form of heat therapy that is applied on soft tissues
(muscle, tendons, ligaments) and joints. The ultrasound uses sound waves to help reduce
swelling, pain, and muscle spasms.
Electrical stimulation and TENS
This form of therapy helps decrease pain by sending electrical impulses to disrupt the nerves
that send signals to the brain. TENS can be used to relieve neck, back, and pelvic pain, as well
as symptoms of arthritis and fibromyalgia.
Manual therapy
Manual therapy or hands-on techniques helps reduce pain, increase range of motion and improve
the function of soft tissues and joints. This therapy can be classified as soft tissue
techniques and joint techniques.
The soft tissue techniques include massage, active release technique, and functional
mobilization.
The joint techniques include traction, muscle energy techniques, joint mobilization, and
manipulation.
Kinesiology taping
Kinesiology taping consists of applying a special tape to your body to help support the joints,
muscles, and tendons. This tape will facilitate the movement and support the joint while
inhibiting pain and spams.

Benefits of rehabilitation with physical therapy or chiropractic
Minimal downtime
Rehabilitation clinics or physical therapy clinics offer non-surgical procedures with minimal
downtime. Therefore, if you are in the city for another procedure, you can take advantage and
schedule a therapy session.
Improves mobility
Sessions of physical therapy or chiropractic can help strengthen weakened muscles and joints.
Therefore, your balance, gait, and range of motion increase, while minimizing the chances of
suffering joint deterioration.
Can prevent surgery
Prompt treatment from a PT or chiropractic following a sprain or sports injuries can help you
heal correctly and avoid further complications. In cases, where surgery is required,
pre-surgical rehabilitation can help reduce pain and inflammation after surgery.
Helps recover from surgery
Post-surgical rehabilitation is recommended on patients who have had surgery on the hip, knee,
shoulder, spine, or following a stroke or heart attack. Rehabilitation helps regain strength,
flexibility and increases balance and gait.
