Orthopedic general procedures information
Herniated disk
A herniated disk occurs when a portion of the nucleus pushes through the outer ring of the disk, causing pain and numbness in the neck or lower back. Specialists recommend non-surgical treatments like therapy and medication. If pain persists, surgery can be advised. The procedure consists of making a small incision either in the lumbar or cervical area of the spine to remove the herniated part of the disk. In some cases, the entire disk needs to be removed along with a bone graft.
Bone fracture repair
A bone fracture occurs when the bone is exposed to a high impact, force or stress. Most fractures are caused by a fall, an accident or medical conditions that weaken the bones. Depending on the severity of the fracture a cast or an external fixation will be used to limit the movement and return the bone to its normal alignment.
