Orthopedics and traumatology focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of conditions affecting the bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and nerves that make up the musculoskeletal system. Treatment options may include medication, physical therapy, minimally invasive procedures, or surgery, depending on the patient's condition, goals, and lifestyle.
An orthopedic surgeon may pursue additional fellowship training in spine surgery, typically lasting one to two years after residency. This advanced training provides specialized expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal disorders, including degenerative conditions, deformities, and traumatic injuries. With this experience, spine specialists can develop personalized treatment plans designed to relieve pain, restore function, and improve quality of life.

Orthopedic general procedures information
Herniated disk
A herniated disk occurs when a portion of the nucleus pushes through the outer ring of the disk,
causing pain and numbness in the neck or lower back. Specialists recommend non-surgical
treatments like therapy and medication. If pain persists, surgery can be advised. The procedure
consists of making a small incision either in the lumbar or cervical area of the spine to remove
the herniated part of the disk. In some cases, the entire disk needs to be removed along with a
bone graft.
Bone fracture repair
A bone fracture occurs when the bone is exposed to a high impact, force or stress. Most
fractures are caused by a fall, an accident or medical conditions that weaken the bones.
Depending on the severity of the fracture a cast or an external fixation will be used to limit
the movement and return the bone to its normal alignment.

Benefits of getting orthopedic procedures
Most orthopedic procedures are minimally invasive surgeries, these are some of the top benefits.
Reduces pain and increase mobility
The orthopedic specialist is devoted to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the bones,
joints, tendons ligaments and muscles (musculoskeletal), helping patients reduce the pain and
improve their mobility making day to day tasks more enjoyable and improving the quality of life.
Smaller incisions
Most orthopedic procedures require smaller incisions than traditional open surgery reducing the
risk of blood loss.
Less down time
Minimal invasive orthopedic surgeries take less time to recover and most patients notice a
decrease in pain after the procedure, another good aspect is less hospital time that will impact
