Eardrum repair information and locations in Mexico

Eardrum repair is a surgical procedure used to repair a hole or tear in the eardrum caused by repeated ear infections, loud sounds, trauma, or foreign objects in the ear.
The tympanic membrane or eardrum separates the outer ear canal from the middle ear. This thin membrane receives sound vibrations and transmits them to the tiny bones in the middle ear. A hole or tear in the eardrum can cause hearing loss and infections in the middle ear.

Most ruptured eardrums heal within a few weeks without treatment. Surgery will be advised if the eardrum doesn’t heal by itself or other forms of treatment won’t help close the hole. There are different surgical approaches, your ENT surgeon will determine which procedure is best for your condition.

Surgery for eardrum repair

Myringoplasty
The myringoplasty consists of sealing the perforation with a small piece of fat obtained from behind the earlobe or using a gel-like material. The surgery is done using general anesthesia.
Tympanoplasty
A tympanoplasty is a surgical operation that involves reconstructing the eardrum using a graft from under the skin. In some cases, an implant can be placed to reconnect the bones and improve hearing. The procedure is performed by making small incisions in the ear canal or just behind the ear.
