Peña de Bernal
Bernal’s Rock is the world's third-largest monolith and the main tourist attraction of the town. Formed millions of years ago by an extinct volcano, this impressive stone is not only a challenge for hiking and rock-climbing lovers, but it's also a place of great cultural and spiritual significance. Every March 21st, thousands of tourists visit this place during the spring equinox to celebrate local traditions. Enjoying the panoramic views from it or just admiring it from the town are experiences that connect with nature and the history of the region.
Bernal’s Historic Center
The center of Bernal is the vibrant heart of this picturesque “Pueblo Magico.” With its cobbled streets and colonial architecture, it invites visitors to wander and discover charming spots. The Main Plaza, San Sebastian Temple, and the ancient prison known as “El Castillo,” which currently hosts municipal offices. The center is also a meeting point for locals and visitors alike, known for its local gastronomy and the crafts market, which specializes in wool textiles, creating an atmosphere that mixes history, culture, and tradition.
Museum of the Mask
Located in the center of Bernal, the Museo de la Máscara is a cultural hotspot that exhibits a fascinating collection of over 300 items. Its permanent exhibitions are divided into two main collections: masks created by local artists for a yearly contest and a second private collection that gathers pieces from different parts of the world, including Africa, Europe, Oceania, and other regions in Mexico. The museum offers a deep look at the traditions, legends, and mythical characters from the region through the rich symbolism of their masks.
