Ciudad Juárez is a vibrant metropolis located on the border between Mexico and the US. It offers visitors a mix of history, culture and amazing natural landscapes; from its historic and charming downtown to the impressive landscapes like the dunas de samalayuca or the sierra de Juarez, the city offers something for every visitor.
Historic Center/Downtown
Juarez historic center offers a combination of different ages and cultures; walking through its streets is like traveling through time, where old buildings meet with lively plazas and different commemorative monuments. One feature is the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Cathedral, with its impotent architecture and religious significance. The plaza de armas in front is the heart of the city center, and it’s a meeting spot for locals and tourists where you can enjoy local music, events and a glimpse into the day-to-day lives of the people. Don’t forget to visit the Mercado Cuahutemoc, a labyrinth of colors, aromas and flavors where you will find local arts and crafts and taste the gastronomy of the region.
Monumento a la Mexicanidad/plaza de la Mexicanidad
Rising in the Ciudad Juárez horizon, the Monumento a la Mexicanidad, commonly known as “the X” is an iconic symbol of the city and a homage to Mexican identity. This colossal metal sculpture, artwork by the renowned artist Enrique Carvajal, or “Sebastian,” represents the union between the native and Spaniard cultures that gave birth to the Mexican nation. Its imposing presence in the Plaza de la Mexicanidad makes it a landmark and an ideal place for taking photos. The plaza is an ample and modern space that hosts different cultural events, concerts and family activities, making it an important meeting spot and a place to celebrate Mexican culture on the border.
Dunas de Samalayuca
A short distance from the bustling city, the dunas de Samalayuca offer an escape to a natural landscape that features breathtaking beauty. This extensive field of dunes extends over miles, creating an almost surreal landscape. The fine sand invites you to walk barefoot, slide on a sandboard through its slopes, or just admire the immensity of the landscape and the contrast between light and shadow that appear through the day. The dunes are not only a visual spectacle, but also a place with a rich geological and archeological history, where different artwork and artifacts from ancient cultures have been found. By exploring the Samalayuca dunes, you will have an opportunity to connect with nature in its pure state, experience the desert's tranquility, and enjoy exciting activities in one of Mexico's unique landscapes.
