Taking your phone to the bathroom has become a common habit. What should be a quick visit of a few minutes often turns into over 20 minutes due to phone use. Sitting on the toilet for too long can cause health issues like pelvic floor weakness and hemorrhoids, which can affect your quality of life and may require medical treatment.

Sitting on the toilet for long periods compresses the glutes and relaxes the rectum, affecting blood circulation in the area. This can cause the veins to dilate and enlarge, increasing the risk of hemorrhoids. To prevent this issue, it's recommended that bathroom visits last less than 10 minutes. If you can’t go within that time, it’s better to get up, walk around, and let your digestion regulate naturally.
If you’ve experienced symptoms of hemorrhoids or are intrested in getting treatment and want to do some medical tourism we invite you to listen to our episode Where we speak with one of our general surgeons about the time needed and what is required for the procedure in Mexico.
